SKIING IN CHILE

Adrenaline, extreme sports and spectacular views amid the mountainous nature. This summarizes the white sport that each winter season has much of Chile as the protagonist. Generally during June to October, when Chileans and foreigners fill the various winter resorts that extend from the central area and to the extreme south of the country for skiing and snowboarding.

Chile has the largest area suitable for these sports in South America; therefore, you will always find great ski tracks with all the facilities and for all levels.

PORTILLO: with nearly seven decades, it is the oldest Ski Center of South America. Located two hours from Santiago (164 km), it possesses the fastest ski tracks in the southern hemisphere. Its courts are located more than 3,000 meters above sea level and are commonly official headquarters for training of Olympic teams. It has 34 tracks and 14 lifts, in addition to a great hotel, where the cuisine is important, four meals are served daily, including 5 o’clock tea. There are other lodges where to sleep, restaurants and bars.

VALLE NEVADO: Chile’s largest ski center, with the largest skiable area in South America. Since its creation in 1988, it followed the patterns of European winter resorts, putting special concern in delivering first class services and accommodation. It has 39 tracks and has a skiable area of 40 kilometers.

EL COLORADO-FARELLONES: one of the ski resorts closest to Santiago (39 km) and one of the most convenient in terms of lift ticket prices. Its snowpark, Colorado Park, is the largest in South America, in addition has 19 lifts. Farellones offers first time skiers the Parque Nieve, a low inclination ski slope for beginners, with a magic carpet to go downhill as many times as possible and includes instructors for all ages.

TERMAS DE CHILLAN / NEVADOS DE CHILLAN: Termas de Chillan is a wonderful five star Hotel and Spa located in the Andes of the Biobío Region. It has a Nordic Center and a Mountain Park where various activities are performed, such as Nordic skiing on a circuit of 5 km, trekking with snowshoes and randonee. They also offer dogsledding and paintball in the snow. For its part, the neighboring Nevados de Chillan is the most important ski resort of the Biobío and aims to become a great destination on the South American level with two hotels and thermal pools with different temperatures. Here it is possible to ski between trees or in the snowpark.

PUCON: Just 20 minutes from Pucon and at the foot of the Villarrica volcano, this small ski center allows sliding while enjoying breathtaking views of the lakes and volcanoes in the area. It is a site preferred by families and, above all, by the cultists of the free style. It has large expanses of off-piste, ideal for free style skiing. It has 17 tracks and 7 lifts.

CORRALCO: one of the newest ski resorts, at 56 km distance from Victoria and 57km from Lautaro (about 90 minutes by land from Temuco). It has a relatively new hotel: Valley Corralco Hotel & Spa and is within the Malalcahuello-Nalcas National Reserve, next to the Lonquimay volcano and amidst a landscape of ancient Araucaria trees. They have 28 tracks.

OSORNO Volcano: 62 km from Puerto Varas, this ski center is located at 1.672 meters on the Osorno volcano, one of the main tourist attractions of the region of Los Lagos.

Although it does not have the extension nor the infrastructure possessed by the ski courts near Santiago, it has gained notoriety thanks to the breathtaking view of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and the nearby tourist attractions offered by this region.
