CHILE WINE TOURS
Chile boasts 2,700 miles of coastline along the cool Pacific Ocean and a variety of climates, in which it produces a bounty of superb wines. Our tours offer a chance to taste these delicious wines while learning about the local culture.
When the Spanish conquistadors came to Chile in the 16th century, they brought vines with them – the beginning of the viticultural history in this diverse South American nation. Today over 20 different varieties of grapes are grown in Chile and it is one of the world’s most popular wine producing countries.
Many French producers from Bordeaux have made their second home here and the influence from France can be seen in the styles of the wine. In recent years the wine scene in Chile has gotten even more focused on quality and winemakers are dedicated to making the most of the unique terroir here. Some of the top wines in Chile include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Bordeaux Blends, Carmenere, Syrah and Pinot Noir.
Each region of Chile is known for a different varietal. For example, the coastal Casablanca and Leyda Valleys produce herbal, tart and fresh-tasting Sauvignon Blanc while the high altitude and mild weather of Elqui and Limari is where peppery, fruity Syrah thrives. The dry and hot climate of the Maule Valley is similar to Southern Spain, which is ideal for making old-vine Carignan.
Our Chile wine country tours will immerse you in the local wine-making culture and we visit a range of different wine destinations within Chile. From the Wine Route of the Aconcagua Valley and Portillo to the Casablanca Valley to the famous Maipo Valley – you will get a taste of the best wines Chile has to offer.
